Sponsorships are at the core of MDM Honduras programs, providing an educational scholarship and after-school program that helps children and at-risk youth overcome the financial and academic barrier that interrupts their formal education.
Sponsorships are awarded to students with leadership potential to continue their academic education at local schools and to further their development through the MDM after-school programs. Students become eligible in Kindergarten and can continue receiving their scholarship as long as they are enrolled in school, provided they meet academic achievement guidelines and actively participate in MDM programs.
Scholars come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, with the average income level on the mountain of about $500 per year and the average education level for the mothers at 4th grade.
In 2013, MDM had 86 returning students and 5 new students, bringing the total number of active scholarship recipients to 91. Since 2002, the Sponsorship/ After-school Program has grown from 9 students to 91 in 2013. As a sponsor you will receive pictures, letters and report card.
